Spring Planting May 21, 2011 – Volunteers Needed

With spring officially underway, it is time for all you winter aficionados to hang
up those snow shovels and start digging to the tune of a new season.

Please join the Nordic Ski Foundation and fellow skiers as we kick off spring with
a tree planting day in Theodore Wirth Park. Leaving lobster gloves behind, come armed
with digging shovels and work gloves as we plant 50 new trees near the ski trail in the
Eloise Butler section of Wirth. 25 maples and 25 birch trees will be filling out the forest
where the old ski trail used to hug the wildflower garden and along the new trail in that
area.

Saturday, May 21. Meet at the old tennis courts on the corner of Wirth
Parkway and Xerxes Avenue North at 9:00am (there is no parking available
at Wirth Beach due to construction). Volunteers are asked to bring: shovels,
digging forks, rakes, wheel barrows and work gloves.
We will be planting trees and
distributing mulch near the new ski trail near the old and the new “Gronquist Hill.”
Your hard work will be rewarded at noon with pizza and beverages at the Wirth Picnic
Pavilion. Watch the saplings grow over the summer, and admire your contribution as you
ski the trails in the years to come. Join us!
