DESCRIPTION:Ski-Orienteering LoppetRegister Volunteer\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Ski-Orienteering Loppet\n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday\, February 6 \nIf you want an adventure that mixes the great outdoors with a bit of a scavenger hunt\, give this unique event a go. Hosted by the Minnesota Orienteering Club\, the Ski-Orienteering Loppet is a timed event in which participants navigate on skis using map and compass to find checkpoints located throughout Theodore Wirth Park. \nSki Orienteering adds an additional element of challenge to the traditional sport of orienteering. If you are primarily a skier\, you will add to your sport the challenge of finding efficient routes to a series of locations throughout the trail system as identified on a map. If you are primarily an orienteer\, you will have the added challenge of moving through the park on cross country skies to complete the course. When you have finished\, you will all be a ski-orienteer! \nTo best fit your experience and fitness\, the Ski-Orienteering Loppet offers two course choices at the time of registration. A medium/long course (approx. 8-10K) will challenge the participant with plenty of hills\, orienteering route choices\, and\, depending on snow conditions\, possibly route choices that may take you off of the groomed ski trails. A short (5-6K) course will be a bit more friendly to the beginner/intermediate skier/orienteer. The short course will be mostly on the groomed ski trails\, including a few hills up and down (with possible shortcuts off trail if so desired by the participants). \nThis event is open to either the classic or skate ski technique at the participant’s preference. \nParticipants will receive additional important race information on start location/details directly from the race and it will be posted here on the website. \nFor more information on the Minnesota Orienteering Club and to see a complete list of events for the season\, visit the MNOC website. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nGALLERY \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n There is no on-site or race-day registration for the Ski-Orienteering Loppet. There is a 500 meter cutoff option for the 1K skiers at the “Roundabout” if they need it (it avoids Jim’s Hill-not a big hill but enough to challenge some new skiers). Parents (no registration required) are welcome to join their 1K skiers on skis or foot-please just stay to the side or behind so other participants can easily pass). All distances are either classic or skate – the skate skiers will start ahead of the kids with classic skies. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nGALLERY \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n Next Generation Loppet (3K/2K/1K)\n Price Increase Dec 16 | $20\n \n \n $15\n Register\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Proceeds from the Next Generation Loppet benefit the Loppet Foundation. Learn more about the Foundation’s mission\, vision\, and values. \nRegistration and transaction fees are non-refundable\, including in the event of delay\, rescheduling\, or cancellation of an event or program. We understand that we cannot fulfill our mission of connection and community without acknowledging and addressing the many barriers that exist for some members of our community\, especially our BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community. As an outdoor organization that is operating on stolen Dakota land in Minneapolis\, we recognize the importance of honoring both the land and the community in how we operate.  \nIn striving to fulfill our mission and values\, we reserve a number of reduced fee/free entries for those for whom the cost of participation is prohibitive. If you are interested in participating in a Loppet event and this applies to you\, we invite you to apply for financial assistance through the application linked below.  \nLOPPET EVENTS FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE APPLICATION \nAs a way to recognize the Dakota land we run with and steward\, all Indigenous people can participate in any Loppet event for free by emailing events@loppet.org and requesting a discount code. \n \n \n \n \n \n Can I change my race distance or transfer my entry to a friend?\n \nThe deadline to make race distance changes is 4:00pm on the Friday a week before the race. Sit Skiers ARE permitted.\nIt is greatly appreciated if you can take the time to walk your dogs in the morning before coming to the race venue. After all\, just like their people\, it probably feels way better to take care of this business before the race!\nIt is required that racers pick up after their dogs!! At least leave the bag on the side of the trail if you don’t have a means to pack it out.\nYou may bring your dog inside to get your packet. Outside of packet pickup (pre or post race)\, doggos will be allowed into the front part of the Trailhead (near the ticket office) for warming up. Please do not hang out in the Great Hall or near The Trailhead Cafe in deference to food safety rules.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Seeding\n\nTeams will be seeded based on prior Skijoring Loppet results as well as registration self-seeding information.\nRequests for seeding by Skijorers with no prior race history must be sent to info@k9powered.org by January 18\, to be considered for this event. Request must include links to publicly available skijoring race results.\n10k Skijoring teams will be seeded based on recent K9 Powered Sports Midwest Race Series Race results. Check it out.\nSpecial Parking on Saturday!\n\nWe will do our best to provide the closest parking possible to our skijor teams. Watch your email for permits to park in areas not available to other Festival participants.\n\nSaturday: Trailhead South Parking Lot or the Chalet Lot\n\n\nNote that access to the Trailhead will be closed at Hwy 55. You will need to approach the both the Chalet and Trailhead via Plymouth Ave from the east or Golden Valley Rd from the north.\nWatch your email. Permits will be emailed on the Thursday or Friday prior to Festival weekend.\nPlease be respectful of your parking privileges and do not duplicate or share your parking permit with others. Your pass is intended for one vehicle only.\nYou will need to print out your permit to show to the parking attendants- please have it ready on your dash before you get to the checkpoint. Do not plan to show it on your phone. It is too slow and hard to view for our parking volunteers who often have a line of cars to manage.\nPlease note that spectators coming to Theodore Wirth Park should plan to park at the Mortenson Lots (700 Meadow Lane and 4100 Olson Memorial Highway\, Golden Valley). \n\n\nOther Race Day Transportation Options\n\nMost common is to bring a friend who drops you off and picks you up. This person can double as your handler!\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Dropoff/Pickup\n\nAt the Trailhead: Chalet Lot Drop Off Zone. Shows the location in the Chalet Lot where dropoffs and pickups at the Trailhead will be allowed (if you are not using the special skijor parking permits).\n\nDropoff/Pickup is not available at the Trailhead.\nPlease note that access to the Trailhead/Chalet area will be closed at Hwy 55. You will need to approach the Chalet via Plymouth Ave from the east or Golden Valley Rd from the north.\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Road Closures\n\nTheodore Wirth Pkwy will be closed to all traffic from Hwy 55 to Plymouth Ave: Saturday 7am-1:30pm & Sunday 7am-12pm\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Festival Village & Post-Race Party\n \n \n \n \n \n Refreshments! We’re proud to be the largest locally-owned emergency and specialty hospital for pets in the state of Minnesota.” \nOur sponsors help make everything happen and better! Please visit all of them and thank them for their support. We are sure you will have some fun with them\, too! \nIndoor Changing Area – Trailhead locker rooms. Veteran experts may choose the championship bracket while those looking for a more casual experience may choose the popular recreational bracket. \nAt the tournament will be Captain Ken’s Chili and one free Pryes Brewing beer for registered participants! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nGALLERY \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Register your Team\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n Kubb\n \n \n \n $88\n Register\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Proceeds from the Kubb benefit the Loppet Foundation. \n \n \n \n \n \n What does my entry fee go towards?\n Entry fees go towards the production of the event and The Loppet mission of connecting people to the outdoors through experiences that grow community! \n \n \n \n \n \n When will the participant guide be published?\n Typically we send it out to registered participants and post it on the event website about 1 week ahead of the event. \n \n \n \n \n \n Are there any special group discounts?\n Email events@loppet.org if you’re part of a club to see if there’s a way for us to partner with each other. \n \n \n \n \n \n Are dogs allowed at this event?\n While we love your furry friends please leave them at home for these large Loppet events. \n \n \n \n \n \n Who do I contact about the race if I have a question?\n \nThe Loppet Foundation1301 Theodore Wirth ParkwayMinneapolis\, MN 55422events@loppet.org612-604-5330\nRegistration: registration@loppet.org\nSponsorship: sponsorship@loppet.org\n\n \n \n \n \n \n I have special accessibility requirements\, who can I talk to about this?\n Reach out to events@loppet.org and we can talk about how we can support you. \n \n \n \n \n \n I’m a spectator\, where should I watch or what do I need to know?\n \nCheck the course and transportation sections of the website for details\nLoud cheering\, fun signs\, cowbells\, noise makers\, music are all highly encouraged.  Please keep cheers and signs positive and respectful. \nFood & beverages are available for purchase at the finish line (best to bring your credit card!)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Will you have merchandise available for sale?\n Yes! Come check out our awesome merch in the adventure shop at the Trailhead or at the finish line. \n \n \n \n \n \n Is there a time limit?\n In keeping with our goal of offering a unique kubb experience while maintaining a competitive tournament for participants\, time restrictions are necessary to ensure the semifinal and final matches are played on time. Matches not completed by their designated ending times will be determined by the tiebreak rule. All Championship Bracket rounds will start at the designated times listed on the schedule even if both teams from the previous round have advanced. The purpose of this is to avoid excessive downtime for teams if one side of the bracket is getting too far ahead of the other. This will also allow teams finishing early to warm up between matches knowing when their next match will begin. \n \n \n \n \n \n What if there's a tie?\n The following explanation is to break a tie in the Round Robin stage to determine which two teams move on to the Championship Bracket if\, after all Round Robin matches are complete\, a tie exists between three or more teams. Note that the first tiebreak is not games won or head-to-head. \nExample:Teams A\, B\, and C will compete in a throw-off to determine which teams advance. \n\n\n\n\nTeam\nW\nL\n\n\nTeam A\n2\n1\n\n\nTeam B\n2\n1\n\n\nTeam C\n2\n1\n\n\nTeam D\n0\n3\n\n\n\n\nThrow-offA throw-off consists of each team throwing 6 shots from their base line trying to knock over as many kubbs as possible. The two teams knocking over the most kubbs will advance to the Championship Bracket. In this example\, if Team A knocks over 3 kubbs in the throw-off and Teams B and C both knock over 2 kubbs\, Team A will advance to the Championship Bracket as the group winner. Teams B and C would then throw again with the winner moving on to the Championship Bracket as the group runner-up. As is the case for match play\, no player may throw more than two batons during a throw-off. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Photos\n \n \n \n \n \n 2026:\n\nTodd Bauer Photos\n\n2025:\n\nKatie Heimer Photos\nAndrew Thibodeau Photos\n\n2023:\n\n2023 Kubb Photos\n\n2022:\n\n3/5/10K Skijor\, 10/20/3K Classic\, Kubb Tournament\, Orienteering\, 5K\, Sit Ski\, 1/2/3K Next Generation race\, 10K Skijor\, 10/20/37K Skate Ski\, 33K Fat Tire – Todd Bauer\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Upcoming Loppet Events\n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for upcoming Loppet events!  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday\, October 3\, 2026 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Phyllis of the Forest Book Release EventThursday\, October 8\, 2026 - 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Loppet Community CelebrationSaturday\, October 17\, 2026 - 7:00 am - 7:00 pm Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ Loopet LoppetTuesday\, October 20\, 2026 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Run Your Pace\, Understand Your Base: Empowering Female Runners Through Pelvic Floor AwarenessMonday\, November 2\, 2026 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Roundtable: Snø Racing Program Update and Masters Racing DiscussionThursday\, November 12\, 2026 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Theodore Wirth – An inside look at the man\, the park\, and his legacyMonday\, November 16\, 2026 - 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Heart Health and Endurance SportFriday\, December 4\, 2026 - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Senior Social\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join the Community \n \n \n \n \n \n Support The Loppet Foundation\n \n \n \n \n \n The Loppet depends on our community to support our mission through donations\, membership and volunteering. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Donate\n \n \n \n \n \n Support our mission of connecting people to the outdoors through experiences that grow community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Become a Member\n \n \n \n \n \n Membership at the Loppet directly supports our mission and gets you added benefits to enjoy! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Volunteer\n \n \n \n \n \n We depend on volunteers to ensure our programs and events offer the best experience.
