Surly Trail Loppet Half Marathon to Add 20 People to Support Loppet Alumni
Thanks to all of you who signed up for the upcoming Surly Trail Loppet. We had an overwhelming response – we hit our limit for all three races on August 15, 2013. We cap the number of participants to prevent overcrowding on the trails and keep the Surly Trail Loppet a positive race experience for all.
With that said, we know there are people who still would like to participate. So we’re opening registration for the half marathon for an additional 20 people on a first-come-first-serve basis to help us launch a new fund to support Loppet alumni. Since we started in 2005, we have taught 5,000 kids, including 4,000 from North Minneapolis, how to ski, mountain bike, canoe, and run trails through our elementary and middle school programs.
Every year we have more and more Loppet kids who get a passion for outdoor activities through the Loppet and want to continue by joining high school teams or participating in our community-wide races like the Surly Trail Loppet. Many don’t have the resources to cover the costs. So we’ve been stepping in as they’ve been stepping up.
But we need help.
So we’re asking people who would like to participate at this point in the registration process to donate a minimum of $100 to help us support Loppet alumni. If you’re interested, please donate here, and we’ll send you a link to register.
If you’re inspired to help beyond the possibility of entering the half-marathon race, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support the Loppet Alumni Fund.
