Family Days Kick off in Loppet Youth Adventures
Last year the Loppet Foundation piloted an effort to bring families of our Minne-Loppet students and members of the school community. Last year Loppet Adventures hosted 125 people, largely African American, from Park Brook Elementary at the inaugural Family Day at Theodore Wirth Park. Adventures Director Anthony Taylor remarked last year that he was amazed that people who attended did not realize how close North Minneapolis is to Theodore Wirth Park.
On Saturday, January 24, the Loppet Foundation and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board hosted kids, families, teachers and administrators from Elizabeth Hall International Elementary School and Cityview Community School, a new program to the Loppet Foundation this year. The Cityview Program is run by a long-time Loppet supporter and coach for the school, JulieĀ Ellingson.
The families from the schools were having a blast. Given the Twin Cities Championships, there were limited opportunities to ski so the families just used the tubing hill. we look forward to future Family Days over the course of the weekend.
