NEMS Trip to YMCA Camp Warren

The Northeast Middle School Junior Loppet cross country team was anxious to get on real snow. After several weeks of dryland training, we ventured north to YMCA Camp Warren near Eveleth to get our first good taste of winter December 18-20. In addition to the 11 skiers from Northeast, we were joined by 12 skiers from Franklin Middle School Junior Loppet team.

Mother Nature did not disappoint us as it snowed several inches up north just days before our departure and we had fresh snow to ski on at Giants Ridge! Several of us ventured deep into the woods where we found a series of roller coaster hills. The kids had so much fun, they kept climbing back up the hill, and would scream back down with giggles and laughter. Great exercise and great winter fun! Evenings were fun as well with group meals, games, a roaring fire, stories about our favorite thing from the ski day, and an awesome night hike under the stars both nights. We stopped at Snowflake Nordic Ski Center in Duluth on our drive back.

With the holiday break upon us now, the kids can’t wait to get back to school and ski practice on real snow. Bring on Junior Loppet!
