Upcoming Loppet Programming

Lets talk about fall programming with The Loppet! Fall programming registration will go live on Monday, July 1 at 9 a.m.

Registration for most programs opens Friday, March 1. See below for a list of every program offered by age range.

Youth

  • Trail Kids Mountain Bike – Trail Kids offers three sessions of six-week mountain bike programs for novice to advanced riders. Participants ages 7-13 will explore single-track trails while gaining skills they can use for a lifetime!
    • Activities Include: mountain biking
    • Skill Level: novice – advanced by program. Trail Kids 6-week program offerings for Session 3 will meet ONCE a week. While it is preferred that riders with no single track experience take a Beginner Mountain Bike Clinic before participating in the 6-Week Sessions, we are accommodating new to mountain biking riders in the 2024 Session 3 offering.
    • Age Range: 7-13
    • Please note that Trail Kids registration has already opened
  • Trail Kids Run & Orienteering – Youth ages 7-13 will enjoy trail running on the single track and ski trails around Theodore Wirth Park as they are coached in the basics of orienteering skills. The program will also incorporate ultimate frisbee, slack line skills, and other running games as warm up activities for the main session which is focused on trail running and orienteering.
    • Activities Include: running, orienteering, ultimate frisbee, slack line
    • Skill Level: novice – advanced
    • Age Range: 7-13

Juniors

  • LNR Juniors Development Team – Ski training for young nordic skiers. The Development or “Devo” group is the starting point for all skiers new to LNR.
    •  Activities Include: running, skate and classic rollerskiing, strength and conditioning 
    • Skill Level: Beginner and intermediate
    • Age Range: 13 – 16
  • LNR Juniors Competition Team – The LNR competition team for 16-19 year olds will continue to be focused on year round training with the goal of competing regionally and nationally.
    • Activities Include: running, skate and classic rollerskiing, strength and conditioning 
    • Skill Level: Advanced
    • Age Range: 16 – 18

Adults (18+)

  • LNR Adults Fall Dryland Training – Get in shape for skiing with pre-season dryland training. Experienced coaches will lead sessions that include pole hiking/running, hill bounding, interval work and strength/conditioning.
    • Activities Include: pole hiking/running, hill bounding, interval work and strength/conditioning. Balance work, ski specific circuit strength, perfecting basic skiing motions
    • Skill Level: Novice – Advanced
    • Equipment Needed: Classic Length Ski Poles
    • Locations Offered: Theo Wirth Park, Minnehaha Falls
  • LNR Adults Intermediate Rollerski Training – Sessions focus on interval training, specific strength and technique development for skate skiing.
    • Activities Include: interval training, balance, stopping, gliding, legs only skiing, double poling – on rollerskis
    • Skill Level: Intermediate – Advanced
    • Equipment Needed: skate rollerskis, hi-vis clothing
    • Locations Offered: W. River Rd, E. Bush Lake Beach, Bloomington
  • LNR Adults Women’s Dryland – Sessions will include balance, strength, and dryland drills. All sessions will include an intensity component in the form of ski walking, running and/or bounding.
    • Activities Include: perfect basic skiing motions, gain strength, interval and strength circuit sessions
    • Skill Level: Novice – Advanced
    • Equipment Needed: Running shoes, bounding poles, yoga mat
  • LNR Adults Wave 1 Rollerski Training – Advanced rollerski group for current or aspiring Wave 1 skiers. Class is for both advanced women and men looking to improve their Birkie or Loppet marathon finish times!
    • Activities Include: interval training, specific strength and technique development with use of drills and video analysis
    • Skill Level: Advanced
    • Equipment Needed: skate rollerskis (classic optional), heart rate monitor, helmet, hi-vis clothing
  • LCW Trail Adults – Trail Adults program teaches the same skills as our Trail Kids program but is for adults only.
    • Activities Include: mountain biking
    • Skill Level: Novice
  • LCW Adult Mountain Bike Skills Clinics: Ideal for those who are already comfortable riding a bike on flat and even terrain looking to advance their mountain bike skills and technique. Please note that these clinics are focused on skills with little to no trail riding.
    • Activities Include: mountain biking
    • Skill Level: all levels welcome
    • Focused on skills, less trail riding
  • Adult Strength for Endurance Athletes – Focuses on building a solid base for nordic skiing, running, and other endurance sports by utilizing body weight movements, barbells, free weights, and plyometrics.
    • Activities Include: strength training
    • Skill Level: intermediate – advanced
  • Fall Yoga – Yoga geared toward the athlete who wants to supplement their training routine as well for those who want to explore and deepen their yoga practice.
    • Activities Include: yoga
    • Equipment Needed: yoga mat 
    • Skill Level: intro – advanced
