Anwatin Team Hosts Season’s First Waffle Loppet
Under the expert direction of Head Coach Allie Rykken, members of the Anwatin Middle School Ski & Bike Team dished up some tasty waffles on Saturday, January 24. During set up they had quite the operation going on with the athletes manning different stations – batter making, waffle-iron operations, condiment preparation and more. They were ready for hungry skiers to arrive! There was a fire pit right off the ski trail and great signage directing guests to the waffles.
After a morning work out the Loppet Ski Club joined the Anwatin team and Loppet members for some post-skiing waffles. The Patrick Henry High School team joined in on the fun thanks to Coach Mary Luoma. Then there were plenty of Anwatin parents and siblings there to both help out and enjoy the waffles. Loppet Foundation Executive Director John Munger came by to say hello and to secure some snow-shoveling support for that afternoon’s Loppet preparation party.
Overall everyone had a great time at this time-honored Loppet tradition. Do not worry if you missed out on this first Waffle Loppet as there will be two more. On Saturday, February 14, the Nellie Stone Johnson team will host its Waffle-go-round at Hiawatha Golf Course. The Northeast team will host its Waffle Sweet Waffle version of the Waffle Loppet on Saturday, March 14 at Theodore Wirth Park. Hope to see you there!
