Low-pet Law-pet Challenge

Prepare for the City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival Fat Bike & XC Ski Events

January 12, 2025

Low-pet Law-pet Challenge

Is it Low-pet or Law-pet? We invite you to pick a side to race with for how you pronounce Loppet! The Low-pet Law-pet Challenge, formerly known as Pre-Loppet, this event includes both ski races and fat bike events. With all races starting and ending in the lower Stadium, athletes will get a great tune up race before the City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival. Ski races will be a 5K and 10K skate options and fat bike will be around a 15K option. We’ll see which team takes the trophy this year by scoring each team’s average time to settle it once and for all – are you team Low-pet? Or are you team Law-pet?

And don’t forget about the kids ski events – 3K, 1K! Also offered is a Sit Ski option of 500 meters!

I double dog dare you to do both the 10K ski AND the 15K fat bike! If you’re up of the Double Dare Challenge register for both events for discounted pricing.

Aid Stations

We will have a basic aid station (water & electrolytes) for the 10K skiers and bikers. And the usual post-race goodies at the finish for all participants.

The Double Dare Challenge

Double your fun and do both the 10K ski AND 15K fat bike. Our race schedule should allow enough time for most skiers to finish the ski and make it to the start of the fat bike. Finish the ski, drop your bib, and make your way back to the bike race start. It is up to you if you want to leave your bike stuff with your vehicle or stage it near the start before the ski race – bike racks will be available for your convenience near the start. We will combine the times of both races and have a separate Double Dare results category (you will still be listed and considered a participant in each individual race as well).

Transportation

Parking

  • Trailhead: Lot will be available and we expect it to fill
  • Chalet: Available, please do not park any other cars in if there are snowy conditions and parking lines are covered.
  • Mortenson, Neighborhood, or Overflow: Available if Trailhead and Chalet lots are both full. Overflow lot may be closed if it is too warm.

Alternative Transportation

Bikes: We will have bike racks near the finish (bring your own lock). We encourage everyone to ride their bike to the race!

Bus: Consider using the bus (Metro Transit) as part of your race day plan! Buses and trains are equipped to carry bikes. See the Metro Transit Bicycles and Transit page for more info.

Rideshare: Uber/Lyft options are a great way to avoid parking and shuttling!

Awards

Awards
  • Awards (Pioneer Midwest hats!) for first three overall male, female and non-binary category finishers in the 5K & 10K Ski Course, Fat Bike, and Sit Ski races
  • Double Dare Challenge (10K ski+fat bike): Separate results category but Doublers are also still considered a regular participant in both the ski and bike events (both results and awards).
  • 3K, 1K:
    • Youth 16 and under will receive Finisher Medals.
    • Overall time results will be listed with age noted.
