Loppet/Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Ski Trail Passes

A ski pass is required to ski on any Loppet/Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board Ski Trails. This includes Theodore Wirth Park, Columbia Golf Course, Hiawatha Golf Course and the Chain of Lakes.

Season Ski Passes

Please purchase your season ski pass(es) online. For those who are unable to purchase their pass online or who need extra assistance with the process, a customer service representative at the ticket window of The Trailhead (1221 Theodore Wirth Parkway) will be able to assist you with a mobile tablet or your own cellular device (only debit/credit cards will be accepted for ski pass sales).

All Access Ski Pass

Get an All-Access Ski Pass to ski on all Minneapolis Parks trails, including on Theodore Wirth Park’s snowmaking trails where The Loppet Foundation’s continually-improving snowmaking capacity makes for great skiing all winter. This pass is required to use all trails in the North Wirth Trails west of Theodore Wirth Parkway. This includes Hap Lutter Trails, Judy Lutter Loop, and Twin Lake Trail. This pass also allows the pass holder access to all groomed trails in the MPRB trail system, both snowmaking and natural snow. This pass also grants you access to Columbia Golf Course, Hiawatha Golf Course, and the Chain of Lakes trails.

Natural Snow Ski Pass

Please note that that this pass does not include access to ski on snowmaking or lighted trails.

Purchase a Natural Snow Ski Pass to have access only to the natural snow trails of Hiawatha Golf Course, Columbia Golf Course, Theodore Wirth Park, and The Chain of Lakes. This pass allows the pass holder to ski in natural snow areas only. This includes South Wirth and North Wirth Trails, except for the snowmaking/lighted areas (the Hap Lutter Snowmaking Loop, the Judy Lutter Loop, and the Twin Lake Trail). This pass is recommended for the skier who is interested in skiing in natural snow areas only, not the lighted/snowmaking loop. For instance, someone who is interested primarily in skiing on the Chain of Lakes or at Hiawatha or Columbia. This pass also grants you access to Columbia Golf Course, Hiawatha Golf Course, and the Chain of Lakes trails.

Ski Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable. Season Passes are valid from the date the ski trails open or date of purchase (if bought after the open date) through the end of the ski season.

Discounted Passes

If you are ordering season passes for more than one person in your household, you will pay full price for the first pass, and $70 or $25 (depending on pass type) for all additional adult passes. You must order passes online in order to receive the discount.

Purchase Your Pass & A Luminary Loppet Ticket

Save time and buy your Luminary Loppet pass when you purchase your season pass! The Luminary Loppet on Saturday, February 8, is the Twin Cities’ most magical event of the season. Come to the Luminary to experience a walk around Lake of the Isles. The trail is lit up by over 1,200 luminaries and unique ice features including the ice pyramid and more. To avoid congestion, there are six start wave times which are listed below:

You will receive a separate confirmation email containing your Luminary ticket(s) within 5 business days of purchase.

Daily Ski Pass

These passes are intended for skiers who wish to access the trails for a single day. Daily passes are available for both All-Access and Natural Snow-only areas and may be purchased online or at Theodore Wirth Park. Daily Passes are valid only for date of purchase.

Cross Country Ski Races & Group Ski Trail Passes

More information about group ski passes and ski trail events can be found here.

Theodore Wirth Park has some of the best cross-country ski trails in the Twin Cities. As such, many teams choose to rent space on our trails for races or buy group passes for their team.

We do have ski pass discounts for large teams; however, an orientation to The Trailhead and our trail systems is required before applying for discounted ski passes. Please email permits@loppet.org for more information.

FAQs

I’ve purchased my ski pass, now what?

You can go skiing! No digital or physical passes are required.

How do I show my pass?

If asked on the trails, we can verify your ski pass purchase through our system. You can also print or download your pass via RunSignUp.

I don’t have a cell phone, or do not ski with a phone, what should I do?

Be prepared to verify your information with staff. All your information is securely stored and is not shared.

Multiple people in my family purchased passes under the same email, how does that work?

The digital passes will be stored under the purchaser’s account. The account owner can share the links to additional passholders. Additional passholders can also verify their information on the trails with our staff, no digital or physical pass required.

Is there youth pricing?

Yes! Please choose from the dropdown menu when selecting the type of pass.

Is there a reduced cost for additional household members?

Yes! All additional members must be in the same household, and the passes must be purchased at the same time.

Can I purchase a ski pass as a gift for someone else?

Yes! To purchase a pass as a gift to someone else, simply enter the gift recipient’s name and personal info into the Registrant section during the registration process.

When does my pass expire?

Your pass expires at the end of the 2024-2025 ski season. This corresponds with the end of the ski trails being consistently groomed.

Do I need a pass to hike or bike in the park during winter?

Passes are not required for cycling or hiking in the winter, with the exception of fat biking on the snowmaking ski trails on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.
